Rugby Forum - The New Era!

Posted by Lucas - 31 January 2007

Brilliant!     The 2007 rugby season arrived quicker than a Federer backhand and for many this will be a defining season. The World Cup is of course all consuming and readers better get use to it, everything will be subject to, justified by and measured against the greater glory of the World Cup.

Starting this season, RF will venture away from the weekly or as was the case last year, not so weekly mail to a column on the www.rugbyforum.co.za website. Many readers expressed their support for the idea but maybe a quick explanation as to why, after 6 years, make a change?

Well, the amount of work it created for this supporter / armchair critic / writer became just too much. It was quite a process to do the weekly mail and to a large extent too dogmatic and as work pressure increased (referring to my real job!),  the time and will was severely lacking. Not to mention the Springbok results...

It is / was no small decision but the idea is to be able to free up more time for actually writing than doing the compiling and relying on others to get RF out there in your inbox. Added to that the management of a large mailing list, dealing with mail server replies for out of office, subscribers who are no longer at the mail address and things just became too much.

The decision is thus to move away and share my thoughts with you where just about every other person in the world is doing it now - the Internet blog. So hopefully, I will be able to post more often and for those subscribers out there, the idea will be (eventually) for you to post replies. In the mean time please continue the fantastic correspondence to the usual address -  lucas@rugbyforum.co.za

A quick clarification... the idea is not to become another Keo.co.za he has his niche and is doing a very good job of it. Neither will it be a news site. RF will remain true to its original idea and that is to provide honest opinions and articles on the rugby world. No agendas, no advertisers to please and no magazines to sell. This does not mean I am not open to suggestions! After 7 years and no real income from this hobby, a few rand will do nicely thank you!

This will be in fact the final email and after 234 mails, its been a great innings! Thank you for all your support and please continue to do so! Also, feel free to send the link to friends and other interested parties and drop by regularly for more articles.

All the best

lucas
